From the Reservation to the University...

SYLAPers -

For two weeks now, you have been taking a college Shoshone language course; you have been living in the dorms; you have been working at a university research center; you have met with recruitment representatives.

How has your view of going to college been affected so far? How do you feel, at this point, about going to college after high school?

  1. This program is letting me experience college life in a way. So far I've learned that college is alot of work and can be tough, but it also has many experiences that can be shocking and memoriable. Going to college is in my future, and Like steph i'm thinking of going further with linguistics:)

  4. This whole experience has been an awesome one. Life here is great! But,I feel this is a very restricted way of "college -life." I wouldn't say the college-life is reflected very much in this, however it is a very good way to check out the campus. Time away from hometowns or where ever you live is always nice and needed. My views of college are not affected too much because I've experienced a program where I've stayed in a college dorm. But, the living experience on campus is definitely swaying my decision towards the U of U. Linguistics is more of a possibility than it was in the past.

  5. I always knew that i was going to college sooner or later. I've already decided to go to the U of O this Fall but since this experience here at the U of U I've changed my mind about things. I thounght that I hadto understand business to go back and benefit our tribe. Is that the only way I can benefit my rez? Sure, I'm like the whitest chick in school but I know more shoshone than every single kid there. Maybe its my calling to teach the language and revitalize it. I finally know what i wanna major in, Linguistics.
